Week 5

Stoke School Staff Meeting Agenda
Tuesday 8th of March
2011

Location: Room 6 (ICT Sharing?)

Notes of Interest:

• Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews: Thank you for all the preparation, blood, sweat and tears that goes into these interviews, we will debrief at our meeting.
• National Standards Presentation, thank you for your attendance and thank you for the positive feedback, please remember we want this to work for us. For Stoke School it is all about ensuring transparency of reporting to ensure parents and students receive a realistic picture of where they are at. I know there is work to be done on moderation across our school, community and country but we are making great progress and we are doing great..
• Tony Ryan: Thank you to those who could make it to Tony Ryan, I hope you got something from it; often it is just the time to sit and reflect that is the most valuable.

Agenda:

Admin Quick stuff:
• Next week in Room 10, Targeted Students, Action plan, Debs results.

Discussion:
• Interviews- PMI, (I loved going around and seeing the conversations happening directed at the children, I think we need to move to 12 minute interviews with 15 minute slots).
• End of term Topic/Unit-
Proposal 1: From now until the end of term teach a unit that you love or a need you have identified or something of interest or topical. Teach it for 5 weeks and then have a school sharing in week 11, choose a way to present, it could be in a slideshow showing the process it could be students retelling, pieces of work??? (Remember both syndicates have been asked for pieces of work for the newsletter). Then in Term 2 we look at a Healthy type unit to tie in with Life education and we do that until Dinosaurs/Production that can start whenever.
Proposal 2: ??
• Appraisal Interviews: I have purposefully held of mentioning the appraisal cycle as we have been extremely busy. But on Tuesday the 15th of March Jac will release each teacher to have a 30 minute conference with myself to discuss the year’s appraisal process and to set development goals. If we are still swimming your swimming times would be ideal? I will hand out your job descriptions including management units for you to look over before the meeting
• Resource Room: What’s the plan Stan? I would like to propose we use parent power (Leanne Crighton is keen)to get resources over to the resource room and then early in Term 2 we have curriculum team meetings to look at resources (obviously we will have to stagger this as we can’t all fit in the shelves at once).
• Coding We’re Stoked:
Tony Ryan talked to Kimberley, Sarah and me about how to embed our vision into our school practice while at the same time establishing a culture of reflecting. He talked about coding, which is similar to developing a matrix but a little less intense.
If we take our words from We’re Stoked and develop a code from 1-4 for what each word would look/feel like in our class:
Whanau:
In our class we
1. Can at times show how to work cooperatively with the explicit direction of the teacher.
2. Can listen to others ideas, share our own ideas and care for group members with the direction of the teacher.
3. Work positively in groups, listening to others and sharing ideas without being interrupted and without the direction of the teacher.
4. Work together as a whole group, caring for one another and respecting everyone’s ideas to collaboratively produce successful outcomes for all participants without teacher direction.

Excellence:
In our class we:
1. Can share one example a day of when I tried my best.
2. Can share and can listen to others examples of trying their best and give a compliment as feedback.
3. Can identify excellence in our friends work and my own and can pass on praise.
4. Often share examples of excellence and we feel proud of ourselves and our friends when we share examples of excellence.

Respect:
In our class we:
1. Discuss what respect is and most people show respect for themselves, others and things.
2. Can share one example of respecting our property, people and/or myself everyday.
3. We look after ourselves, our classmates, our property and we care for everyone most of the time.
4. Look after ourselves, our classmates, our property and we care for everyone and everything.

Energy
In our class we:
1. Can name an exciting thing we have done this year.
2. Have one really exciting time each week.
3. Like being at school because we like learning in an exciting way.
4. Can’t wait to come to school because everyday is fun and creative.

Map your class out on this simple Target graph.
Axis 1: Whanau
Axis 2: Excellence
Axis 3: Respect
Axis 4: Energy

What does it tell us?
Could this be used in our classes?
These codes were written by me without a lot of time, as a syndicate would it be beneficial to brainstorm the whole lot?
What if your class came up with them?
What would your 4 codes be for Seeking?

• Production: We need to start identifying who we think could carry a main part, by that they have to retain a fair amount of lines, speak clearly and act (singing voice is a bonus as some have solos). Kelly has volunteered to look at dance choreography and Kirstin has volunteered to start a choir but they if any of us want to that please say so as don’t want anyone to feel left out.
• Rest of term staff meetings:
• Walkthrough review from Craig, Kimberley and Pete (Elective ideas)
